Where are my dragons?

I get it.  Game of Thrones is on a long winter hiatus for the next 18 months.  Winter is coming, then summer, then winter, then summer.  But what can I say, I’m in denial.  We have to wait for them to write the script, film it, advertise it and tease us about it.  That takes time.   But I can’t wait.  I miss you Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Arya Stark,  and especially you Joffrey Baratheon.

GOT is beyond awesome.  It has so many twists and turns that you can never predict where it’s going.   I actually have all the books, but it’s so much more fun to watch the series so they sit on my shelf.  I love that just when you think that you have someone pegged as a jerk, BAM, they’re the ones saving your favorite character from being killed by some random bad guys.  It’s cool how these complex characters can be so bad and so good at the same time.  With the exception of my favorite character, Joffrey, who is definitively all bad.  Jaime Lannister did a good job being a cocky and arrogant jerk, but in season three I totally changed my mind about him.   How do you do it George R.R. Martin?

I love how Daenerys has transformed into a strong individual that doesn’t rely on men to sustain her power.  It’s cool how Theon Greyjoy is finally getting what he deserves, but I admit I have to remind myself that Ramsay is the good guy.  I love Arya Stark but she really needs to be more appreciative  of The Brotherhood Without Banners.  She is in danger of turning into a full-fledged brat, but she’s been through a lot so let’s give her the benefit of the doubt for now.   I also love Tyrion Lannister.  His scenes so well written and he delivers his lines so perfectly.  He and Sansa Stark are great together.  Sansa had to endure Joffrey for  way too long and she deserves someone as great as Tyrion.

But let’s take a minute to give Joffrey some props.  He is so stupid and arrogant, and the actor who plays him, Jack Gleeson, is awesome.  Tangent, he was in the Batman movie when he was about 10 years old.  Just a short scene with Christian Bale on the fire escape, but I recognized him when  I was re-watching Batman on TV.

One of my other favorite characters is Tywin Lannister, who I call “Papa Lannister.”  It was great when he walked up the steps to talk to Joffrey on the throne.  The scene was so well done because Papa Lannister perfectly respected Joffrey’s power, but also made it clear that Joffrey was still just his grandson and not to mess with him.

On another note, my friend in school had a drama assignment where they had to break norms.  You have to make someone sitting on a park bench leave by making them feel uncomfortable without touching them.  So she found her target, a man in black suit reading a magazine.  She walked right up to the man and looked over his magazine.  Then she went so close to him that she could hear him breathing.  Then she said as loud as she could, “Where are my dragons?”  He bolted out of there, and she cracked up.  What a goof.

So, I wear my Lannister t-shirt with pride for the next 18 months and wait for Winter to return, again.
